El Real de Santa María, district of Pinogana, province of Darién. The community sits on a collective territory of approximately 2,513 hectares and its name comes from the abundance of pixvae or pijiba in its surroundings. To get to the Pijibasal community from Panama City there is a land and water tour. The land route is along the Pan-American highway of approximately 300 km to reach Yaviza where you board a canoe, a traditional local boat, and the water route begins navigating the Chucunaque and Tuira rivers until you reach El Real de Santa María. In the rainy season it is possible to continue the tour of the Pirre river until reaching the community; while in the dry season it continues along a dirt road from El Real, crossing streams and rivers, passing through the communities of Pirre 2 and Pirre 1, until reaching Pijibasal.
